The Department of English offers UG, PG, M. Phil and PhD courses. It also offers a Certificate Course in Publishing, which is first of its kind in Odisha. The PG course in English was introduced in 2015 after the inception of the university. The M. Phil and Ph d courses were introduced in the years 2017 and 2019 respectively. The department imparts both basic and specialized training in English Literature so as to make the students competition ready. The department also offers three-years Honours course in English with CBCS system.
The department comprises of one Professor, one Assistant Professor, one Reader, and one Lecturer. It specializes in Indian Literature, Indian Writing in English, Postcolonial Literature, Odia Writing in Translation, Linguistics, American Literature, Critical Theory, Indian Aesthetics and British Literature. The department organizes seminars, webinars, workshops on contemporary areas of research. It also conducts workshops on UGC NET preparation. The faculty members are actively involved in publication of the RDWU Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences. The Alumni of the department are well placed in academia as well as the corporate sectors. Students have gained many accolades in the inter-university and state-level competitions.
