About Department
The Department of History at the Rama Devi Women’s University is an intellectually vibrant centre of scholarship and teaching. The Department of History offers a complete range of degree programs at the undergraduate level. It is based on the belief that an understanding of history is essential not only to a complete education but also to a life of wider awareness, fulfilment, and responsible citizenship. Department seek to instil in students a passion for learning about the past to enable them to gain a better understanding of the contemporary world and make connections to the future. Department is committed to develop the students’ vital skills such as critical thinking, analysis, verbal expression, and effective writing.
Vision
- The History Department seeks to build its students’ transferable skills, employability and intellectual curiosity, along with raising public awareness about the past and its legacies, through teaching, research and service activities conducted locally, state-wide, regionally, nationally, and internationally.
Mission
- Transform the students into citizens who are critically informed about the past and its consequences for the present.
- Promote studies in history, society and culture that range from Ancient to Modern (contemporary) India and World History, from the Far East to American History and from Regional History to Historical Theories & Methods.
- Empower students to cope with the challenges of globalization by instilling in them a life-long passion for learning about the past. The knowledge about the interconnections between the global, national, regional and local history will equip the students to face the challenges with confidence.
- Prepares students for a wide range of careers by teaching a core set of transferable skills through the study of societies, cultures, and economies across a broad chronological and geographical spectrum.
