Rama Devi Women’s University values each and every student and its employee. And strives to make her/his stay at the Institute productive and stress-free. In this regard, the Counselling Centre provides the space that enables the students to lead productive and fulfilling life. The Counselling Centre is a crucial component of support services extended to the entire community at RDWU campus. It provides support to girl students and staff to cope with varied psychological concerns. In the multicultural academic context of the campus, the Counselling Centre seeks to develop healthy coping strategies and creating a safe environment for the girl students. Through the various activities it has initiated on the RDWU campus, the Centre has focused on reducing the stigma around mental health concerns.
The students form the largest percentage of clientele, seeking counselling on various issues like academics, life, career, relationship issues etc. The Counselling Centre provides services like individual counselling, group counselling, and organizes various mental health promotion programmes. The Counsellors conduct lectures, workshops, and events throughout the academic year.
The centre has come into existence in the 24th Syndicate of our esteemed institution, on 10th November, 2021. The centre has been inaugurated by eminent American psychologist Prof. David Carson in presence of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Aparajita Chowdhury on 31st October, 2022. Our interdisciplinary staff is here to support our students finish their educational programs successfully and achieve their personal wellness goals along the way.

With its baby steps, within a very short span of time the centre has successfully conducted a one-day consultation on the Draft National Policy for persons with Disability (large no of visually challenged students of our university participated in the discussion) in collaboration with the Odisha Association for the Blind, Child and Women Development Society, conducted a workshop in collaboration with UNICEF & Dept of Gender Studies on the discussion titled Menstrual Hygiene Management Education & Awareness, One Day Campaign on Healthy Dietary Practices for Holistic Health in collaboration with the International Naturopathy Organisation, New Delhi. Apart from this, the centre has also organised an extremely engaging workshop on Cyber Security in collaboration with the Red Dot Foundation, the Office of the Us Consulate General US and India. A group counselling session on the Fear of Public speaking and Myths of Communication, autobiography reading sessions, craft competition, Mindfulness meditation and stress management session has also been organised by the centre. Recently the student volunteers of the centre joined in the human chain of suicide prevention Awareness Campaign along with the Utsa Foundation team members. A mental health counselling session was conducted for Child and Women Development Society recently. Apart from this to promote wellness our centre in collaboration with community connect cell conducted four days awareness programme for specially abled children at Chetna, kanyashram, schools and slums of Bhubaneswar. Dipak Vohra has recently taken a motivational session for our students. An interactive session on mental health care was organized on 8th September in collaboration with Mo College Abhijan and Inner Wheel Club of Bhubaneswar Elite. Professor of Psychiatry Dr Amrit Patjoshi interacted with students and faculty members, and the session was a fruitful one.

It provides Counselling support to students and staff to cope with varied psychological concerns. an opportunity for individuals to learn to make better choices, improve interpersonal skills, develop confidence and increase educational effectiveness. In a one-on-one meeting with a counsellor, students are helped to explore and express feelings, examine beliefs and ways of thinking about their present situation, reflect on patterns of behavior, and work toward making healthier and happier changes.
