In pursuance to the Judgment of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India dated 08.05.2009 in Civil Appeal No. 887/2009, the University Grants Commission has framed "UGC Regulations on curbing the menace of ragging in higher educational institutions, 2009" which have been notified on 4th July, 2009 in the Gazette of India, Rama Devi Women’s University has set up an Anti-Ragging Cell.
1. One or more of any of the following acts is considered ragging: any conduct by any student/s whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness to a fresher or any other student.
2. Indulging in undisciplined activities by any student/s which cause or likely to cause annoyance, physical or psychological suffering or to raise fear thereof in any fresher or any other student;
3. Asking any student to do something which the student will not do in his or her normal course and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame, or torment or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of such fresher or any other student;
4. Any act by a senior student that prevents, disrupts or disturbs the regular academic activity of any other student or a fresher
5. Manipulating the fresher or any other student for completing the academic tasks assigned to an individual or a group of students.
6. Any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure put on a fresher or any other student by student/s.
7. Any act of physical abuse including all its variants: sexual abuse, homosexual assaults, stripping, forcing obscene and lewd acts, gestures, causing bodily harm or any other danger to health or person;
8. Any act or abuse by spoken words, emails, post, public insults which would also include deriving perverted pleasure, vicarious or sadistic thrill from actively or passively participating in the discomfiture to fresher or any other student;
9. Any act that impacts the mental health and self-confidence of a fresher or any other student with or without an intent to derive a sadistic pleasure or display of superiority, authority or superiority by a student over any fresher or any other student.
Rama Devi Women’s University abides by the rules and regulations laid down by the UGC and takes stern action in case any case of ragging is reported. The University shall take administrative action against the student found guilty of ragging after following the procedure and in the manner prescribed.
The Anti-Ragging committee of the institution shall take an appropriate decision, in regard to punishment or otherwise, depending on the facts of each incident of ragging and nature and gravity of the incident of ragging established in the recommendations of the Anti-Ragging quad.
The Anti-Ragging Committee may, depending on the nature and gravity of the action award to those found guilty, one or more of the following punishments, namely:
The UGC has made it mandatory for all students/parents to submit anti ragging related affidavits to the institutions at the time of admission. These affidavits can be downloaded from the web site of UGC and or www.rdwu.ac.in
